Terry Acebo-Davis

Evident in her meticulous, cross-referential body of work Acebo Davis reflects the symmetry of the artist’s duty as a professional recorder of experience and memory and the basic human desire to do so. Looking at Acebo Davis’s ouevre now, one realizes that her work was not only timely, but also is timeless. –Reena Jana / Art Writer (New York City, NY)

ARTIST LAUREATE AWARD INFO

What did the Fellowship or Laureate mean to you at the time you received it?

It was a wonderful affirmation that being an artist is a valuable vocation and has meaning in this and the greater global community. I continue to have two vocations that feed me emotionally and spiritually. Unfortunately only one feeds me financially and it isn't the Art - but I'm still a "Maker"!

What do you do now? Has your art evolved or changed?

Yes! I have an exhibition at Wing Luke Museum in Seattle. I was invited to participate as an installation artist by the curator, who saw my work in Honolulu in 2007. I am with a noteworthy group. A catalog will be published. I also participate in Bay Area shows. I feel very honored by the many invitations to exhibit in the past ten plus years! I hope this trend continues!

What is one piece of advice you would give to an emerging artist?

Be passionate and honest about your creativity and it will guide you along this wondrous journey! Bahala na!

Briefly, how would you describe the state of the arts locally, as well as national and beyond?

We have work to do!
