MORE ABOUT THE ARTIST

What did the Fellowship or Laureate mean to you at the time you received it?

It was validation that my work was appreciated by others.

What do you do now? Has your art evolved or changed?

I've moved away from photography and have begun painting. I don?t have much time to paint, so I consider myself a beginning painter.

What is one piece of advice you would give to an emerging artist?

Don?t expect your artwork will make a living for you; be sure to augment those talents with skills that will pay the rent. Your creative thinking will put you ahead in those non-art jobs.

Briefly, how would you describe the state of the arts locally, as well as national and beyond?

When I left San Jose I felt that the arts there were active, alive, immersed within the community. I can?t speak much about culture here. Nationally/internationally, there seems to be so much turmoil, I'm not aware that the arts have made any advancements.
