MORE ABOUT THE ARTIST

What did the Fellowship or Laureate mean to you at the time you received it?

It was an incredible honor and the opportunity to be recognized in my field. The laureates' show at the Triton gave me contact with a new audience and new collectors.

What do you do now? Has your art evolved or changed?

I do ceramic sculpture and some printmaking. My art has evolved not so much in technique as in concept - a deepening of the thought processes and meanings behind what I make. To see my work, go to the gallery page of my website: http://www.ninakstudio.com/inc/gallery.php

What is one piece of advice you would give to an emerging artist?

Just stick with it - the going often is rough but those that succeed are the ones who don't give up despite setbacks of various kinds. Keep in contact with other artists who can give you support and sometimes guidance.

Briefly, how would you describe the state of the arts locally, as well as national and beyond?

Good, but could be much better.
