ARTIST LAUREATE AWARD INFO

What do you do now? Has your art evolved or changed?

I am honored and elated to have received the Artist Fellowship Award for Dance Performance. This has been a significant milestone on my journey through dance, joyfully propelling me forward to continue with my first love. I feel appreciated and publicly celebrated for my contributions to our arts community in the Silicon Valley. I am fortunate to be able to sustain myself through my art so my heart remains open, and I remain a vessel for my art to flow through me and with me.

What is one piece of advice you would give to an emerging artist?

I am co-director/choreographer/performer of sjDANCEco. I teach dance at San Jose State University, De Anza College and San Jose City College. My evolution has been a continuous process, one that I hardly notice because I am always doing what I am called to do. In addition to expanding with my company sjDANCEco, I have had the opportunity to tour with Spector Dance's multimedia dance performance called Ocean - a subject that is close to my heart about the state of the world's oceans and what we can do about it.

Briefly, how would you describe the state of the arts locally, as well as national and beyond?

The average person has 11 jobs in his/her life time....why not do what you love first instead of last! Surround yourself with people who support you and your visions!

Growing, better exposure than ever!
