ARTIST LAUREATE AWARD INFO

What do you do now? Has your art evolved or changed?

I was gratified and honored to receive this local level recognition, and to be included with the list of notable individuals who preceded me with fellowship recognition in music composition.

What is one piece of advice you would give to an emerging artist?

I continue to compose. Besides sitting at my desk with pen and paper, I also perform with the ensemble SoundProof, using Kyma (a sound design syPstem), viola and bass. To support my life as an artist, I have a ?day job? as Professor of Music at San Jos? State University. Go to my website to hear some of my compositions: http://www.beletmusic.com/Compositions.html

Briefly, how would you describe the state of the arts locally, as well as national and beyond?

Be true to yourself and your art.

dismally low funding for individuals
