Leslie Martinson, previously Casting Director/Associate Artist and director of many hit TheatreWorks Productions, is the company’s Associate Artistic Director. Martinson has served as a director and administrator at TheatreWorks since 1984.
What do you do now? Has your art evolved or changed?
The validation was tremendously valuable - especially that the award recognized community impact as well as my theatre work. Really brought that mix into focus for me.
What is one piece of advice you would give to an emerging artist?
I'm very much doing the same blend, but with new projects every season. I try to direct each play with a new attitude, a new approach, matching whatever that particular script or topic might need. Briefly, how would you describe the state of the arts locally, as well as national and beyond?
Find your people. Collaborators or sounding boards or supporters - no fun to do all of it alone.
