ARTIST LAUREATE AWARD INFO

What do you do now? Has your art evolved or changed?

It was a great honor to be included among such an accomplished team of Silicon Valley artists. For me, the 2013 Laureateship was a source of encouragement and inspiration. The public recognition was also a fun and gratifying part of the award.

What is one piece of advice you would give to an emerging artist?

I have expanded the thematic and formal boundaries of my writing, publishing two new poetry collections since winning the award. I've also now completed a collection of short stories. I am still teaching, leading workshops, and giving public readings in the Silicon Valley and beyond.

Briefly, how would you describe the state of the arts locally, as well as national and beyond?

Cultivate an holistic sense of yourself - body, mind, and spirit - and strive for equilibrium, stability, humility, and courage.

Vibrant, eclectic, diverse.
